On February 5, 2022, Dienke Hondius and Jan Erik and Robbie Dubbelman found a special photo album at a relative’s house containing photos of Bertie and Eddy Maarsen, two Jewish children in hiding. Upon further research at the Jewish Museum, Robbie Dubbelman discovered that the Maarsen children hid with an uncle and aunt of Dienke Hondius’s father in Hilversum in 1942.
In March 2022, Dienke Hondius and Jan Erik and Robbie Dubbelman visited Eddy Maarsen at the Jewish Cultural Center in Amsterdam-Buitenveldert, where he works as a kashrut expert for the Chief Rabbinate. Rabbi Maarsen recalled positive memories of the hiding place in Hilversum and spoke at length about the photos.
